WASHINGTONIA ROBUSTA
WASHINGTONIA ROBUSTA
Direct Observation: Towering thin trunks, green fan leaves. Seem to be plentiful throughout the Palm Springs area.
Anecdotal: Differentiated from the closely related washingtonia filfera by having greener, more densely packed leaves, and taller, skinnier trunks.
Notions: So numerous are the types of palm trees that novice classification can appear overwhelming.
In the spirit of the aforementioned, the scorpions present Washingronia Robusta in hopes they arent too far astray from taxanomic accuracy.
Sentiments: Grimowing up in the Los Angeles area, there was a large washingtonia in our front yard. Many evenings were spent sitting on the fence beside it, wondering if its essence was whispering the secrets of fecundity into my musing. My grandparents from mommas lineage would occasionally visit our family in their recreational vehicle, and not long after we received them, Vestal would be strapped with gear and up to the very top cutting the fronds by hand. Sometimes Id desire to observe intently, and made a game out of dodging the teeth filled palm leaves as they glided groundward after being diapatched. I often drive by when in the neighborhood and wonder when The Scorpions will be able to determine with confidence whether it was a filfera or robusta.
